“The art of being wise is knowing what to overlook” – William James

If you’re interested in philosophical and socio-cultural deconstructions of popular (and not so popular) films, this space is for you.

If, like me, you find yourself asking big questions while watching a film (not just plot holes) like:

  • Where did the idea for this film come from?
  • I’ve seen this idea done before somewhere…
  • What’s the word for this branch of philosophy called?
  • Why do the characters look they way they do?
  • Why do the characters say what they do?

The umbrella answer to all these questions are: the media, film producers and directors. With a very post-modernist argument, it’s my view that everything has a root – outfits, hairstyles, concepts – everything comes from somewhere.

It’s been a struggle for me to find websites of this nature, where films can be philosophically deconstructed and traced. As well as discursively and critically interrogating a film text, I like to throw in some reviews that you may find interesting.

I have a degree in Media, Journalism and Culture, which means I’m naturally going to throw out chunks of criticism.

What Can I Expect from Your Site?

You’ll always find an element of philosophy in my reviews and thoughts of a film – I hope to spark an interest in you about the wider social implications a film can achieve (you can count on becoming a pseudo-Socrates).

  1. News in film and almost all elements of culture/philosophy
  2. Thoughts on almost all elements of culture
  3. Hopefully, a good read.

Favourite Films

My favourite films will be categorised as such. If I’m lucky enough to cycle through all of my favourite films, they will be categorised accordingly. If I’ve slated a film you so happen to adore, please comment and I’ll be happy to consider your views.
